Getting it finished (Weeks 9, 10 and 11)

Having been ultra busy for the past several weeks, I'm finally finding some time to catch up on the to-do list, finishing off the NB23 things at last.

Week 9 dealt with using Apps as part of the library experience.   Like most of my colleagues, I have been using apps on my smartphone and tablet for awhile, so that experience was pretty familiar.  I can tick off Overdrive and e-books, having used them for a couple of years now.   The 'BiblioNB' thing was a bit of challenge as it does not apply to Blackberry devices.  (Blackberry devices are pretty limited anyway, wish I'd known that when I first bought the darn thing)   Anyhow, I was able to borrow a tablet from the library and had a chance to look at BiblioNB, which is in fact pretty good.   Must see if there's any fact sheet or info that can be shared with the clients, many of whom seem to have an IPhone or Samsung glued to their palms these days.

Week 10 was a bit of catchup and reflections, with some questions to help us evaluate what we've learned over the past few months.

Here's my 'ponders' to the questions suggested:
· What was your favourite Thing?   Guess it would be the meme site, using it to create unique humourous pics of cats was a hoot.  My cat Patches thought it was a good way to communicate too, though I had to censor and delete most of his comments as they offended the dog.   (OK, getting carried away Jo!)

· What was the most useful Thing?  BiblioNB is a great tool, I think it would be great if it was introduced more aggressively to the users, since smartphones and tablets are so prevalent now.

· What were you surprised to discover?  Just how much I know, and how much more there is to learn.
· How will you use the Things in your work or personal life?  Of course, already am.
· How did you feel after completing the 23NB program?  Great to have achieved something concrete and timely to use at work and at home
· What did you learn about yourself?   I still enjoy learning new things, and realizing that knowledge and insight still has a place in this advanced technology world.
Week 11 finishes off the 23things thing by inviting you to use 'Stumbleupon', a type of interest gathering and recommendation site.  I just had a quick look and realize it would take hours before I could tear away from the lists and sites suggested, so I'm putting that on the backburner for now.   Would be fun to play around on the site while I'm sipping iced coffee on my back deck, so be it.

This probably is the end of the blogs for a bit.   Hopefully I've learned something useful, and feeling more comfortable with blogging, I hope to be able to use it as a tool as I begin doing more Reader's Advisory work over the next few months.   If you read this, thanks and feel free to let me know what you think, and what tools and sites you found useful.
